- DESCRIPTION:
- Here's a fun, easy-to-use, customizable 32-bit Windows multifunction calculator
- with full scientific, statistics, financial and unit conversion functions plus a
- world clock! It's especially made for the nonprofessional but it also has a slew
- of powerful functions to satisfy the more demanding user. It can calculate, for
- example, hyperbolic trigonometric functions, convert all manner of measures, and
- even tell the time in any major city on the planet--in fewer steps than most
- multifunction calculators take!
-
- Features:
- * Scientific Calculator
- * Statistics Calculator
- * Financial Calculator
- * Date-Days Calculator
- * Equivalents Converter
- * Random Number Generator
- * Animated Message Board
- * World Clock
- * History Tape
-
- Each of these components resides in a resizable form of its own. This way you
- can have more than one (or all) the components open at once! For example, you
- can have the World Clock on while figuring out compounded interests and
- converting miles to kilometers.
-
- Two almost identical Help files are included for your convenience: the one that
- you're reading now and another that you can view from inside the application
- itself.
-
- REMINDERS:
- Calculait is a 32-bit application for Windows 95/98/NT. Because of its use of
- some DirectX graphics, it runs best on Pentium-class machines (166 MHz or
- better). For slower PCs (or if you plan to run Calculait on Windows 95 or
- Windows NT without DirectX ver. 5.0 or higher), just turn off the screen
- graphics via Screen > Screen off. NOTE that Calculait WILL run without trouble,
- albeit with no graphics, even without DirectX. This version has not been extensively
- tested on Windows 2000. (Windows, Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT and DirectX are
- registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.)
-
- Turning off the screen brings up a plate of convenience buttons, most of which
- are shortcut counterparts of features available on the different drop-down
- menus.
-
- Calculait is both mouse and keyboard enabled. You can use either to enter data
- or navigate the menus.
-
- Results on the display can be saved to the Clipboard for use by other
- applications through Edit > Copy. Conversely, numbers or text on the Clipboard
- can be copied to the display through Edit > Paste.
-
- All function buttons have each a hint bubble to explain its use. Buttons without
- a hint bubble have self-explanatory labels.
-
- This Help file is hard-wired into Calculait to allow instantaneous access. No
- need to open another program or navigate other menus. A separate help.txt
- version has been included nevertheless for reading with your favorite word
- processor.
-
- The Options menu enables you to change the background color via Color. At least
- 16-bit high color is recommended. You can also turn off the sound effects
- through Sound off.
-
- The Uses menu lets you access the Scientific/Statistics/Financial/Dates
- Calculators, World Clock, Equivalents Converter and Random Number Generator.
-
- Output is centered for better readability. Four formats are available:
- Financial, Scientific, Comma-Separated and No Format. You can set precision
- (from 1 to 15 decimal places) in No Format.
-
- The keys are arranged in a more natural manner (i.e. left to right).
-
- The % button works differently from traditional % buttons to make it more
- intuitive and useful. Example: to get 6 percent of 250, you simply press 6,
- press %, enter 250, then press Answer.
-
- Value stored with M+ or MN can be previewed by placing pointer over the MR
- button. That value can of course be recalled to the display by clicking MR.
-
- FEATURES
-
- I. World Clock
- The first time you use the World Clock you'll be asked to enter the city
- you're in. If you change your location, you can change your time zone via
- Options > Change city.
-
- The accuracy of the World Clock depends on your PC's internal clock. If it's
- incorrectly set, then the World Clock will give the wrong time.
-
- Cities/regions that don't have their own buttons but are in the same time zone
- as the city/region chosen are listed in a hint bubble. Just point to the button
- of choice and that hint bubble will pop up. In general, cities in the same
- country are in the same time zone.
-
- The World Clock displays standard times only. For cities on DST, like New York,
- simply add one hour.
-
- II. Equivalents Converter
- The Equivalents Converter has a wealth of 82 measures categorized into
- Length, Area, Volume, Mass/Weight, Temparature, Power, Speed, Kitchen Measures,
- Time, Pressure, Angle, and Number. It can be accessed via Uses > Equivalents, or
- by clicking Convert (turn off the screen [i.e. Message Board] first.)
-
- III. Statistics Calculator
- The Statistics Calculator computes for pop. & samp. standard deviations,
- correlation, mean, sum, number of entries, sum of squares and sorts. Use either
- + - * / or Enter to input
- data for processing.
-
- Entries can be viewed on the Statistics tape.
-
- You can save your data entries via File > Save stats tape.
-
- The Statistics Calculator can be accessed via Uses > Statistics, or by clicking
- Stat (turn off the screen [i.e. Message Board] first.)
-
- IV. Scientific Calculator
- The Scientific Calculator has an extensive library of trigonometric
- functions, each with its own button. They default to degrees but that can easily
- be changed to radians.
-
- Degree entries should normally be in decimal format. Deg-min-sec entries can be
- converted to pure degrees via the Uses-Equivalents menu. Use ' as separator
- between degrees and minutes, and between minutes and seconds.
-
- Fraction entries should be written with the backslash operator (\). Hence, one-
- and-one-third is written as 1\1\3. fractions work only with the basic arithmetic
- functions.
-
- Use the MOD operator like you would any other operator: 7 MOD 3 gives 1.
-
- The trigonometric functions are accessed via Uses >Trigonometric functions, or
- by clicking Trigo (turn off the screen [i.e. Message Board] first.)
-
- V. Financial Calculator
- The Financial Calculator computes for interest/factor rates, compound
- interest, present/future values, and amortization payment. Functions are
- accessed via Uses > Financial, or by clicking the appropriate Financial blue
- buttons (turn off the screen [i.e. Message Board] first.)
-
- VI. Dates Calculator
- This allows you to determine the number of days and weeks between two
- dates as well as the date and day of the week, given the number of days to the
- new date (whether in the future or past).
-
- VII. History Tape
- Your calculations are automatically posted on the History Tape. Its
- contents can be saved to file File > Save history tape.
-
- You can access the History Tape through Screen > History tape on.
-
- VIII. Animated Message Board
- Personal reminders and messages can be posted on the Message Board via
- Screen > Message > Message change. Your message will automatically be saved.
-
- IX. Random Number Generator
- This is a simple RNG that asks for the minimum and maximum values of your
- range. If you don't supply a minimum, it assumes 0. It's accessed via Uses >
- Random, or by clicking Rand (turn off the screen [i.e. Message Board] first.
-
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS:

- least 16MB RAM.
-
- A screen resolution setting of 16-bit high color or better is recommended.
-
- A sound card is not needed to run Calculait. If you wish though to hear sound
- effects, a sound card must be installed. You need, however, to supply your own
- sound files (.wav files only) since the author cannot distribute the original
- .wav files, which are copyrighted. You will need a maximum of 15 .wav files
- (you can use less if you wish) installed in the same directory that
- Calculait 2.00 is in (the default is c:\program files\calculait). It's
- essential that you rename each of your .wav files with the following names:
-
- 1. bigdog
